The action will be heating up on area diamonds this week as teams from Ensworth, Nashville Christian, Christ Presbyterian and Hillwood High School begin first round district play in the 2017 TSSAA baseball championships.

Ensworth is coming off an impressive 2-1 victory against powerhouse Baylor.  The Tigers will begin their quest for a state title when they take on Father Ryan on tomorrow.

The Tigers finished the Division II Class AA regular season with a 11-17 record, including 7-11 in district play.

CPA beat Brentwood Academy 8-7 last week, but then was upset by Page 5-1.  They closed out the Division I Class AA Region 6 District 12 regular season with a 8-1 win against Marshall County.

They will look for revenge against Page in the first round of the district playoffs.

Hillwood finished the Division I Class AAA Region 6 District 12 regular season with a 10-20 mark, including 5-7 in district play.

The Hilltoppers suffered two shutout losses to Knights and Greenbrier to end the regular season, but beat rival Cane Ridge in the first round of the playoffs 13-8 on Monday at Antioch.

They will take on the winner of the Antioch-Hunters Lane contest today at 6:30.

Nashville Christian finished their Division I Class A Region 5 District  10 regular season with a 12-12 record, including a 6-4 record in district play.

They closed their regular season with back-to-back losses to East Robertson and Clarksville.

They will hope to improve as they travel to East Robertson for a first-round match-up against the Indians.

In softball action, the Lady Eagles from NCS, who finished the regular season with an 18-6 record, including 9-0 in district play, lost their opening game against Houston County 6-5.

The Lady Eagles had won nine straight games prior to the loss.

NCS will look to return to their winning ways today.
