BMS Wrestlers Perform at City Tourney

  The Bellevue wrestling team completed a successful season finishing fourth out of 24 metro teams at the 2018 City Championships on February 3rd.

  Bellevue had qualified 10 wrestlers to compete in the City Tournament after a 3rd place finish in the power Western division tournament at Croft Middle the previous week. 

  The City tourney qualifiers were Ethan Martin (1st), Recco McDowell (3rd), Seth Bernard (3rd), Spen

cer, Bernard (3rd), Davone Darden (3rd), Jayden Sutton (2nd),Anthony Powell (3rd), Adrian Zackery (3rd), Kevin Hatter (2nd) and Matthew Wilson (4th).

At the City Tournament, five out of the 10 wrestlers finished in the top four and received a medal. 

The medal winners were: 

  Ethan Martin(9-3) at 3rd place, Recco McDowell(17-3) finished in 3rd place, Davone Darden (18-2) finished as the city runner -up (finishing his career with a 40-4 total record), Jayden Sutton ( 15-6) won a double overtime match to finish 4th and finally Adrian Zackery (17-6) finished in third place as well. 

  Other wrestlers who did not place, but contributed to the team score with wins were Seth Bernard, Spencer Bernard, Anthony Powell & Kevin Hatter. 

  Bellevue wrestling finished the seson with a 7-2 dual meet record, second place team finishes at the JT Moore Open and the Litton tournament, Third place  in the western division and fourth place in the City Championships. 

  “We were sure what to expect from this year’s young team,” Coach Wes McGaffin said. 

  “We lost two City Champs and two medalists from last years team, so we were quite pleased with the kids progress from the beginning to end of the season.” Coach McGaffin added.
