CPA Soccer Prepares for Rival Page

The Christ Presbyterian Academy boys varsity soccer are preparing for a huge game at the Den this Friday against arch-rival Page High School.

The two teams have dominated District 12 A/AA soccer the past three years.  CPA and Page have faced off in each of the last three District Championship and Regional Championship games.

Coach Tom Gerlach, in his third season at CPA, has seen his team go 3-3-1 so far this year, and knows this week’s game is key if the Lions hope to win the district title this year.

The Lions have dominated Page in their nine-game series.  CPA has won seven times, while Page has won twice.

Both of Page’s wins have come in the regular season, while the Lions have gone 4-0 in rivalry playoffs games.

CPA is coming off last weekend’s Bearden Invitational Tournament where they lost to Bearden 3-1), and tied Notre Dame 3-3. Bearden is the defending AAA state champions.

Page is coming off last weekends Southern Soccer Challenge in Huntsville, AL where they won all three matches.

Lions are lead by senior Owen Keck (Lee University signee) with five goals and sophomore John Michael Ritchie with three goals.  Ten players have scored the 18 goals on the season.

Seven starters return from last year’s team, Harrison Rody, Sam Woodward, Adam Casseri (defenders),  and goalkeeper Garrett Beam Garrett has allowed four goals and sports an impressive 0.80 GAA this season.

Keck and Baker Avinger (midfield) Tucker Duncan (forward) also started for the Lions last year.

Seniors Andrew Howard and Gray McCullough return to the team this year after injuries and taking time away from soccer respectively
