Lions Get Back to Winning v WHH
Christ Presbyterian Academy got back to their winning ways this week with a big 35-13 victory against conference rival White-House Heritage.
The Lions took the game over in the second and third quarters, scoring 28 unanswered points to earn their first victory of the 2016 season.
Sophomore quarterback Ryan Eledge led the Lions, completing 17 of his 23 passes for 253 yards and a touchdown.
The Lions and Patriots battled each other in the first quarter, both giving up just one touchdown.
But CPA poured it on in the second quarter, scoring three touchdowns and stifling the Patriot offense to take a 28-7 lead at halftime.
The Lion defense were stingy again in the third quarter, while the CPA offense was able to stretch the lead to 35-7, putting the game out of reach.
The Lions use a host of running backs during the contest. They were led by senior James Deaton who gained 76 yards on only eight carries, including a 31-yard burst.
Deaton also caught two passes for 76 more yards, including a 49-yard bomb from Eledge.
Deaton’s combined 152 yards from scrimmage led both teams.
Senior Brad Smith also carried the rock eight times for CPA, gaining 68 yards. Smith also caught three passes for 20 yards for the Lions.
Sophomore Sam West added 33 yards on only six carries for CPA, including an 11-yard burst.
Sophomore Noah Henderson and junior Tucker Duncan each caught four passes for CPA. Henderson gained 40 yards through the air while Duncan had 47.
Sophomore Kane Patterson led the Lion defense with three tackles. Andrew Howard, Gray McCullough, Robert Carpenter, Dillon Lynch, Griffin Sweat, Rooke Young and Sam West each had two solo tackles for the Lions.
Howard stopped the Patriots twice with big interceptions for the Lions.
Sweat also picked off the Patriots.
CPA is back in action Friday against Pearl-Cohn.
