Dirtbags Sweep Way to Tournament Win
By Roger Maness
Playing five games in four days, the WNSL Dirtbags swept the 2018 Goodlettsville Baseball Birdwell Memorial Wood Bat Tournament, going 5-0, and winning the Championship, 13-3, over the Goodlettsville Cubs.
With victories of 3-1, 6-2, 8-1, and 5-4 on their way to the Championship game, the Dirtbags relied on pitching and defense to set the tone for the early games.
“Then”, according to Head Coach, Pat Lawson, “Our bats really came alive, pushing 13 runs across against the top-seeded Cubs.”
Coach Lawson added, “It’s an exciting start to the 2018 season and great preparation for the rigorous WNSL schedule.”
The Dirtbags will compete in the WNSL Minors Division (ages 9-10 year-olds), along with 14 other teams in their age group.
Regular-season games begin on April 7th, culminating with a league tournament to begin on May 19th.
WNSL will then send all-star teams into the Cal Ripken Tournament trail, with District Tournaments to begin on June 14th.
WNSL will have approximately 94 teams playing in five different age groups. Congratulations, Dirtbags, on representing WNSL in this pre-season event.
