The Christ Presbyterian Academy’s varsity baseball and soccer teams are once again in position to make runs at state titles.
In 2015, both teams won the Class A/AA state titles, and last year’s teams both finished second after coming short in the championship games.
This season, CPA sophomore got the Lions fired up to begin their playoff run by tossing a no-hitter against Page in the district semifinals.
Morgan’s gem advanced CPA to the district title game, where the Lions beat Spring Hill 3-0 to win the District 12-AA title.
In the first round of the Region 6-AA Playoffs, CPA beat Creek Wood 3-2 in the semifinal to advance to Wednesday’s rematch with Spring Hill in the region final.
Spring Hill beat Waverly Central 4-1 in their semifinal. Both teams will play in the sectional on Friday with the winners going to state. Sectional opponents will be Lipscomb Academy and Greenbrier.
In district soccer action, CPA defeated top-seeded Page in overtime 2-1 to claim the District 12-A/AA title.
The match was scoreless through 80 minutes of regulation until Gray McCullough scored in the 86th minute.
Andrew Howard added a second goal in the 88th to make it 2-0.
District Tournament MVP CPA goalkeeper Garrett Beam made three point-blank saves during regulation to keep the game scoreless.
CPA hosts Fairview in the semifinal elimination match. If they win, the Region final is Thursday against the winner of Grace Christian Academy and Page.
