In a game that Tiger fans hope will set the tone for the season, Ensworth opened their 2017 varsity football campaign at home against rival Lipscomb Academy and pummeled the visitors 35-0.

Senior quarterback Jaylon King got things going for the Tigers, hitting Elijah Brooks with a 7-yard touchdown pass, capping a 6-play, 65-yard drive.

Ensworth went up 14-0 at the end of the first quarter when Nicky Clifton barreled over defenders from four yards out, capping a 7-play, 60-yard drive.

When the Tigers got the ball to start the second quarter, they marched 70 yards down the field, burning up more than four minutes on 11 plays.   Keshawn Lawrence capped off the drive with a 15-yard run to give Ensworth a 21-0 lead at the half.

The second half was more of the same for the Tigers.  Their defense was dominant, and their offense was consistent as they controlled the ball for much of the game.

Just over seven minutes into the third quarter, Nicky Clifton was able to find pay-dirt again, this time from 19 yards out to give Ensworth a 28-0 lead.  It took the Tigers only two plays and just 40 seconds to score this time.

The defense continued to stifle Lipscomb offense in the second half.  The Mustangs were held to just 75 yards on the ground in 35 attempts.

The Tigers completely shut down Lipscomb passing game.  The Mustangs only attempted four passes and completed none of them.

Keshawn Lawrence ended the scoring for the Tigers, sprinting 35 yards to the end zone in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring and give Ensworth it’s 35-0 victory.

Lawrence finished the game with 138 yards on the ground in 10 attempts, scoring twice.

The Tigers finished with 266 yards on the ground, averaging 9.2 yards per rush.

Ensworth gained 383 yards of total offense and held Lipscomb to just 75 yards.

The Tigers will be back at it Friday, hosting cross-town rival CPA at Ensworth field.
