Ensworth Wins Three on Road to Stay Perfect

  Ensworth’s varsity baseball team went on the road to compete in a non-league tournament and came home with three more victories to improve their record to 6-0 this season.

  In the first game on Friday against Knoxville Powell, despite seeing its five-run lead whittled down by the end, Ensworth still held on for a 6-4 victory

  Gage Young was the winning pitcher for Ensworth. He went six innings, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out five and walking one. Drew Byers threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Byers recorded the last three outs to earn the save.

  Byers, Patrick Vandenbergh, and Christian Dixon each collected multiple hits for Ensworth HS 2018 Varsity. Dixon, Vandenbergh, and Byers each collected two hits to lead the Tigers.

  In the first game on Saturday, The Tiger bats exploded for 19 runs in a 19-5 win against Watertown.

  In the first inning, Ensworth got their offense started. Christian Dixon singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.  The Tigers took the lead for good with six runs in the third inning. Gage Young doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs, Devin Obee singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run, an error scored one run for Ensworth and Rudy Maxwell homered on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

  Ensworth put up seven runs in the fifth inning. Elijah Brooks, Jaylon King, Ben Goguen, Dax Braemer, and Brooks all drove in runs in the frame.

  Brooks earned the victory for Ensworth. He allowed nine hits and five runs over five innings, striking out three and walking none.

  The final game was tied at two with Ensworth batting in the bottom of the fifth when Drew Byers smashed a grand slam on a 3-1 count to propel the Tigers to a 8-2 win.

  Carson Cobb got the win for Ensworth. He surrendered zero runs on zero hits over two innings, striking out two. Patrick Vandenbergh recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Ensworth.
