The Nashville Christian School’s boys varsity baseball team used hot bats to win their first three games this season, but against Martin Luther King Magnate, the Eagles used strong pitching and timely hitting to win 2-1 in extra innings and improve their record to 4-0.
The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but MLK tied it in the fourth.
The pitchers took over from there, forcing extra innings.
Slater Howard, who scored both runs for the Eagles, raced home with the winning run in eighth, on a Ben Simpson single.
Simpson also earned the win, pitching shutout baseball in relief of starter Chuck Kinnard.
