The Ensworth football team was back at it again this past Friday, hosting Madison Academy out of Alabama.

The Tigers were looking to build on their impressive performance in week one, nearly upsetting Trinity, Ky.

The defense once again came ready to play, shutting out the Mustangs in the first quarter while the offense built a 13-0 lead.

Jarquis Hendricks scored on a 28 yard run and Jaylen King added a 17-yard touchdown run for the Tigers.

The Mustangs got on the board in the second quarter when quarterback Grayson Edgemon hooked up with Tyler Greene on a 12-yard pass, cutting the Tigers lead to 13-6 after the extra point was blocked.

Ensworth was determined to pound the rock and run the clock and they did just that. Hendricks, King, and senior Tim Covington combined to average nearly 8 yards a carry as the Tigers racked up 225 yards rushing on the night.

King added another score, a 38-yard run just before halftime to give the Tigers a 20-6 lead heading into the break.

In the second half, Madison Academy was determined to get back in the game and relied on their huge offensive line, led by Auburn commitment Austin Troxell.

The Mustangs scored on a KeKe Matthews 3-yard run and Sean Dorney added a 42-yard field goal to trim the lead to 20-16.

The game looked like it would come down to the wire but mother nature had other ideas.

With 10:27 left in the game, lightning flashed across the sky causing the game to be delayed for two hours.

The game never resumed and Ensworth claimed the victory.

Tyler Baron and Rodney Owens led the Tigers defense with five tackles each and Tanner Antonutti had a sack and forced fumble.

Senior Jaelin Ferdinand had fivecatches for 126 yards for the Mustangs.

Ensworth will hit the road next week as they travel to Chattanooga to play Baylor on Friday night.

Tiger quarterback Jaylon King led the Tiger ground game with 91 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries.

Tim Covington added 86 yards on 11 carries, with Jarquis Hendricks contributed 72 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.
