Tigers Take Two Out of Three From Father Ryan

The Ensworth boys varsity baseball team took on Father Ryan in a three-game series last week and after dropping their first game of the year in the opener, rebounded and took two of three from the Irish.

It was the usual cast of characters for the Tigers in the finale on Friday.  Catcher Rudy Maxwell hit a blast to break a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning.

That was all pitcher Elijah Brooks needed.  He went six innings, giving up the one run on four hits. He walked one and struck out six.  Tanner Antonutti closed the door in the seventh to earn the save.

Drew Byers went 3-3 for Ensworth and accounted for the rest of the runs, scoring once and driving in two to lead the Tigers.

Christian Dixion was 1-2 with a walk and a run scored.

Devin Obee was also 1-2 with a walk and an RBI.

In the game on Thursday Christian Dixon was bad news for opposing pitchers,  driving in five runs on three hits to lead Ensworth to an  11-2 win.  Dixon drove in runs on a home run in the first, a single in the second, and a single in the third.

The Tigers put up four runs in the third inning. Ensworth  batters contributing to the big inning included Morgan Willis, Patrick Vandenbergh, and Dixon, who all drove in runs.

Gage Young earned the win for Ensworth. He surrendered two runs on five hits over six innings, striking out two.

Willis threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Willis recorded the last three outs to earn the save.

Reed Tyler took the loss for Father Ryan. He surrendered five runs on seven hits over two innings, striking out one and walking one.

Ensworth saw the ball well, racking up 14 hits in the game.

Rudy Maxwell, Dixon, Willis, Drew Byers, and Vandenbergh all managed multiple hits for Ensworth. Dixon and Maxwell had three hits to lead the Tigers.

Father Ryan tallied six hits in the game. Jack Trew and Ryan Ragsdale each racked up multiple hits for Father Ryan. Father Ryan didn’t commit a single error in the field. Seamus O’Connell had the most chances in the field with five.

Ensworth fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 6-1 loss to Father Ryan on Wednesday.

Father Ryan scored on a home run by Cooper Elisar in the first inning and a single by William Reilly in the second inning.

Ryan Ragsdale earned the win for Father Ryan. He lasted six and two-thirds innings, allowing seven hits and one run while striking out four and walking one.

The Irish’s CJ Vaughn threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
