Generals Beat Ensworth for Soccer Title
by Coach Phil Stankiewicz
Special to BSW
It ended with a shootout, but to get there, the Harding Generals and Ensworth Tigers played a back and forth 60 minute game.
In the first half, Will Morrison received a nice pass from Darin Hall and played it down the right side of the field. Morrison shot on goal and scored just left of the post for a 1-0 Harding lead. After Ensworth scored early in the second half to tie the game 1-1, the Harding defensive wall led by Zach Bell, Parker Wainwright, Ruben Boero, and Ryan Schmadtke helped prevent any last minute goals during regulation time or in the two five minute overtime periods.
Clayton Lee and Josh Rohricht attacked the middle of the field consistently during the game, frustrating the Tigers’ offense. Reid Buschman had several breakaways. Maxi Baudenbacher, Drew Lancaster, and William Vreeland also helped keep the ball out of the middle of the field. When it was all said and done, it came down to penalty kicks. After some early misses by Ensworth and a phenomenal dive by goalie Mason McKee to prevent a PK score, Will Morrison put it in the net for the decisive goal. It was the first HVAC championship for the Harding boys soccer team in six years. Way to go Generals!!
