The Bellevue Steelers B team celebrated a 14-8 rain soaked victory over the Murfreesboro-Oakland Patriots this past Saturday at Bellevue Middle School.

The game was scoreless until the third quarter as both teams found it difficult to move the ball in the rainy conditions. Early in the second half, Steelers quarterback Trey Pearson scored on a long touchdown run and running back Tenner Smith added a 2-point conversion, giving Bellevue the lead 8-0.

The “Lil’ Steel Curtain Defense”, led by Garrett Palmer, Chaz Covington, Kordale Keel, and Mack Mahlendorf were relentless in their attack on the Patriots, protecting a shutout until late in the game. Oakland would not back down and was able to eventually tie the game late in the fourth quarter and force overtime. In overtime, Garrett Palmer took matters into his own hands, forcing a Patriots fumble that teammate Chaz Covington recovered.

The Steelers wasted no time ending the game. On the first play from scrimmage, Trey Pearson sprinted around the right side and into the end zone, setting off a wild celebration of terrible towel waving and rain dancing. The entire defense was terrific all day and the team celebrated their victory together.

Coach Luke Wilson was extremely excited about the victory, stating “these kids are great! They played with a lot of grit, determination, and desire to win today.” He expects the boys to keep up the good work as the Steelers travel to Brentwood’s Crockett Park this Saturday to play the Blaze. Game time is 10:00 a.m.
