The Bellevue Steelers celebrated their 2017 homecoming this past Friday and Saturday at Bellevue Middle School.

Friday night featured the parents-coaches football game, chili cook-off, and homecoming court. Kristin Bonner was this year’s chili champion with her secret recipe powered by what she called, “top quality beef.”

The homecoming kings were voted on by their fellow players and coaches. Winners were crowned for receiving the most votes for having great leadership, determination, practice habits, classroom success, and a positive attitude.

This year’s winners are: Pee Wee-Jackson Ramsey, CCC-Brayden Hightower, BB-Seby Nelson-Cribb, BBB-Kaleb Johnson, and AA-Reshad McDowell. Congratulations to this year’s winners.

On Saturday, under beautiful blue skies, the Steelers welcomed in the Percy Priest Ducks and the Jefferson Street Bills for five exciting games.

In the first game the Pee Wee team battled hard but fell short to the Ducks. The player of the day was running back Jimmie Hudson, Jr. who had a long touchdown run. The Pee Wee defense was tough and the team is improving.

In the CCC game, Deearl Leggs and Michean Partee led the Steelers to a big 13-0 shutout win. Brayden Hightower and Dalton Hughes powered the defense, who dominated on the day.

The BB team faced the Jefferson street Bills in a rematch of a week one Steelers win.

This time the Bills prevailed as the Steelers were down a few key players due to injury. The BB team looks to bounce back this week against the Oakland Patriots.

The BBB team started fast and finished strong in a big 43-0 shutout win over the Ducks as Jayden Guy, Kaleb Johnson, Martez Lamb, and Trey Pearson ran for big yardage and the Steelers defense was just too much for Percy Priest.

The Steelers were dominant in all three phases of the game and look to be peaking at the right time.

In the AA game, Reshad McDowell threw a long touchdown pass to Demarion Shields but it wasn’t enough as the Ducks walked away with the victory.

The Steelers found it difficult to block the large Percy Priest defensive line and couldn’t establish any kind of running game.

It doesn’t get any easier this week as the AA Steelers face a tough Brentwood Blaze team on the road.

It was a great day in Bellevue as everyone enjoyed some great food, football, and fun. As the Steelers reach the halfway point of the season, they prepare to go on the road for the next several weeks before returning to Ensworth for their home finale on October 7th against the UNA Bears.
