Lady Lions Take Care of Business

The Christ Presbyterian Academy girls varsity basketball team doesn’t know if it will be a first, second or third seed when the District 12-AA tournament starts on Thursday.  All they know is they have to keep playing their best and win every game, regardless.

In that spirit, the Lady Lions took care of business on Senior Night at the CPA gym, beating district foe Cascade 64-34.

The Lady Lions started out strong against the over-matched Cascade team, and never let up.

CPA scored 19 points in the first quarter and held Cascade to just five points.  The second period was more of the same as the Lady Lions took a 39-16 lead at halftime.

With most of the starters still in the game in the third, the Lady Lions showed great team defense, holding Cascade to just four points.  By the end of the quarter, CPA built a commanding 52-20 lead.

Coach Becky LeGate turned to her bench in the fourth quarter and the two teams traded baskets.  In the end, the Lady Lions ended the night with a thirty-point win.

Senior center Savannah LeGate led the Lady Lions in scoring with a game-high 16 points.  Addie Russell Omer added 11 points for CPA.

Carrington Washburn scored nine points for the Lady Lions, while Emma Maddux netted six points and Libby Long scored five points.

Senior Anne Florence Brown and Grace Gilbert each scored four points for CPA, while Avery Zapp added three points for the Lady Lions.

CPA ends the regular season tonight against Spring Hill.

If CPA ends up being a two or three seed, they will play the first round at home on Thursday in an elimination game.
